What is happiness? When we lead a happier life, we live a longer, healthier life. What does it take to have more happiness in our lives? What does happiness mean to you? To me happiness is a state of being, a feeling of fulfillment, and a deep connection to our purpose. In an article from Psychology Today "Happiness", "happiness is a state of well-being that encompasses the good life, one with a sense of meaning and deep contentment." So how do we begin to have more happiness in our lives? Happiness is something that we create, a mindset, and a can be achieved quicker than one may think. We all have this power within us at this very moment, through discipline we can begin to develop a skill set allowing us to access this state of being. A common theme with a skill is that skills are perishable, if we don't continue to "use it" "we lose it", and need to continue training ourselves. So, how do we develop this skill? It starts with mindset, we can be our own worst critic, and usually get in our own way more often than not. Start by giving yourself permission to be happy, be kind to yourself, and know that you deserve it. Release any self-doubt when it surfaces, as your energy raises your awareness raises, paving a pathway toward acceptance, and non-judgment; this type of inner-work is what builds the framework in changing mindset. Express gratitude, at this moment in time, think of at least three things that you are grateful for, this simple act not only brings you to the present moment, but instantly activates the essence of happiness. Living with what places deep meaning in our life generates that blissful feeling of happiness, when we lead our lives with purpose, we feel more fulfilled, and have that gratifying sense of achievement. In an article from Entrepreneur, "20 Secrets to Living a Happier Life" written by Deep Patel, of the twenty secrets which really stood out for me are "build meaningful relationships, and surprise yourself". One key element to living happier life is to have those meaningful relationships, when we have these friendships we connect to what truly matters in our lives, elevating our happiness. Deep Patel also describes surprising yourself by "putting yourself in new or unexpected situations, set goals for yourself and work to achieve them." We all know that amazing feeling of achieving goals. Finally, in the "Happiness" article from Psychology Today, research has been conducted suggesting that living with more happiness can improve your overall health, "feelings of positivity and fulfillment seem to benefit cardiovascular health, the immune system, inflammation levels, and blood pressure." The fact is when we are happier, we are resonating at energy levels which are completely constructive, we have the ability to feel acceptance and tap into our creative process. Super Awesome Stuff!
