One of the most common myths about introverts is that they are shy. The fact is shyness can be a part of any type of personality, it is not exclusive to only introverts. Introverts are thoughtful, intelligent, focused, highly sensitive, empathic, and detail oriented. The major difference between an introvert and an extrovert is how they recharge when their energy is drained. Introverts prefer to recharge their energy in solitude, removing ourselves from the white noise, moving into a space of serenity and calm. This is not a sense of loneliness but the act being alone in these moments is much needed. I know for myself that going for a walk, run, hiking and meditation are of the few things that I do to regain my energy. Another characteristic of an introvert is that they are highly sensitive, meaning that we are highly in tune with the energetic levels of those around them. This is one of the main reasons why we prefer to be in spaces of quiet, calm, and participate in activities alone. There is a big difference between alone and loneliness; introverts are not afraid of people but we are very selective on the highest levels of trust to who are part of our inner-circles. A big challenge for some introverts is trying to get unstuck and make progress in moving forward in life. Another myth is that they need to adopt the characteristics of an extrovert to be successful in career, community, and relationships. This is not true, and is actually our inner critic creating this fear-based thought process. Becoming overwhelmed in thought, and over analyzing can be very paralyzing, and is enough for them to abandon whatever it is that they are trying to achieve. So, if this sounds like you, or you already know this, the idea is to have the awareness to where you energy levels are, and begin to effectively manage them. This will help reduce some of that overwhelming clutter allowing you to move forward. Also, know that you are worthy of greatness, you are a powerful gift and the world is ready to receive you.
