"Fate leads the willing, and drags along the reluctant."
-Seneca-
When we hear the term "leadership" we often think of a person in a position of authority, characteristics of courage, fearlessness, and effective decision making. The fact is we are all leaders in some capacity, and some of us may not even be aware of this. We all may not have Capt's. bars on our epaulets; however, we all have personal leadership.

Personal leadership is how we guide ourselves, the direction that we are choosing to go. Our personal leadership plays a role in our communities, relationships, careers, and our overall decision making. So how does oneself become a more effective leader? It starts by knowing what our personal mission and vision are.

When we don't have a vision or know what our mission is, we are choosing to allow fate to guide us. Going with the flow of life, and not really knowing where we will end up. It is true that we cannot control outcomes, but if we are proactive in our personal development, set a clear vision, and live with mission, we begin to live without compromising what is important to us. Are you ready to elevate your personal leadership?

Identify what your values are, come up with at least a minimum of ten values. Then, begin to prioritize your ten values by sequencing them in order with the first value being your most important. What do each one of these values mean to you? This is important because when our actions are aligned with our values, we are more committed and motivated.

Now that you have identified a clear set of values, begin creating your own personal mission, your overall goal in life. This process initiates the gyros of your internal compass, creating meaningful direction, and a clear road-map toward your success.

We become more effective in the overall aspect of our lives when we are not compromising our values. This is due to our level of commitment to ourselves, developing a loyalty to our own values. When we experience tough times, we will remain in equilibrium with our mission; this is because we have created a firm platform infused with our guiding values and principles.
