"The part of life we really live is small. For all the rest of existence is not life, but merely time." -Seneca- Let's face it, during major disruptions in our life, maintaining a quality of life can be very difficult. Once the dust settles it is imperative to not only create routine and build morale, but also get back into the rhythm of nourishing our mind, body, and spirit. Although it may seem that everything is on hold during crisis, especially during pandemic, it takes great courage in personal leadership to stay on task with your personal mission. When we are living with quality, this means we are being proactive in managing our overall physical/mental state of being. This allows us to get ahead of the power-curve during crisis, knowing that the most important elements in our lives are and have been taken care of. This practice in personal leadership has a transitional effect on others. When we model desired behavior, we get "buy in", cooperation, and an overall elevated energetic level from others. Let's take a look at some aspects of maintaining or improving quality of life; nourishing the mind, body and spirit. Gaining control of your thoughts, managing stress/anxiety is key to exiting a reactive space and into a proactive behavior. This can be done through meditation, self-affirmation, embodiment of a particular philosophy. Meditation alone calms the mind, creates focus, lowers stress, and in my opinion annihilates anxiety. Through meditation you are nourishing the mind, body and spirit. When you are managing your stress you are also physically taking care of yourself. You will find with this sense of clarity that a greater perspective surfaces. Identify what your overall mission in life is and what your mission is during crisis. Not only does this provide a sense of duty, but keeps the mind in a steady space creating a level of certainty during uncertain times. Create a plan of action in maintaining your physical health, and identify ways of accountability which will keep you on track and honest. When you are physically feeling better you, you mentally feel better. This is an effective way of managing stress and provides an overall sense of readiness in the event of further crisis. Connecting to a higher moral power nourishes your spiritual dimension. Whatever this is to you, whether it is religious practice, going for a hike, connecting with nature, or reading material that supports your spiritual path. This too will enable you to gain perspectives, and elevate your energetic level. Maintaining or improving quality of life is a holistic approach in self-care. You deserve to truly and fully live. Even during times of crisis a quality of life can be achieved, sometimes it may be a matter of rebooting our mindset. Super Awesome Stuff!
